Plants mostly 10–30 cm. Stems leafy (at least proximal 1/2), densely piloso-hispid. Leaves basal and cauline, cauline gradually reduced distally. Heads (1–) 2–3 (–5). 2n = 18.


Phenology: Flowering Apr–Jun(–Aug, –Oct).
Habitat: Gravelly or rocky sites, greasewood-blackbrush, sagebrush, pinyon-juniper, ponderosa pine
Elevation: (400–)800–2900 m
