Proximal scales 0.9–2 × 0.4–0.5 mm. Flowers: perianth bristles 5–6, whitish to pale or rarely redbrown, 0.2–0.4 mm, shorter than achene, spinules not evident at 45X. Achenes 0.3–0.45 mm wide. Tubercles semicircular in outline or shortly pyramidal, 0.5–0.1 × 0.15–0.2 mm.


Phenology: Fruiting spring–fall.
Habitat: Freshwater to moist terrestrial sites, wet flatwoods, pine barrens, margins of ponds, ditches, on peaty and sandy soils
Elevation: 0–600 m
